  • Only EB Games in Australia sent back the boxes. Zenimax had nothing to do with it. Why this is a 'thing' I have no idea. ZOS has been crystal clear from day one this will always be a subscription based game. Not f2p. Not b2p. Sub based.

Actually Zenimax asked for the copies back because EB games sells the games and time cards as digital codes and not as physical items. But wrapping a receipt is stupid. So now instead of printing more copies they can just sell those copies to stores who do sell them as physical copies like Walmart or Bestbuy.

That is absolutely not what EB Games said. EB Games claims THEY sent the copies back.
'Hey guys! This is part of a normal stock recall we do after Christmas and includes multiple titles, not specifically Elder Scrolls,' EB Games said in response to a reader's question on its Facebook page.'

Do you know what a recall is? It's when the original distributor ie ZOS asks for the product back. EB games can not recall a game.

Stock recall WE do. End of year for EB games. Now tell me where in there does it say diddly about zenimax. If what you say is true why is it only EB games australia doing this? Hmm?

  • End of holiday cycles almost all retailers drop items. Its kinda of like using all your stock so you can increase a 'retailer' budget, but I am not speculating, just from my personal experience.
The other day, I went to blahmart to get some more or my favorite and popular shaving cream and guess what, they did not have but maybe 1 or 2 bent up cans. Its business, things like this happen all the time.
If a company decides to utilize a f2p model, who cares, let em in.. Considering how we dealt with those bots, I am not at the least afraid of some kid testing out a game, bring it.
If a f2p model fails the game, well, only place that blame goes and its not the consumer lol. Have a backup plan, never hurts..
  • Isn't this the same site that wrote to Bethesda for answers about zos removing the 6 mo sub? Then claimed that Beth's lack of response was a clear indicator that the game would go f2p?
This is just another clickbait article by a junk site publication that doesn't even understand the role of the entities they write. Anybody that follows info from Kotaku is a fool (aka their target audience).

While I agree Kotaku is a God awful site, Bethesda is the publisher of the game. They would be the ones to provide insight since they make the business decisions, not ZOS.

  • This has me baffled. They are still selling console preorders.

  • I cannot make heads or tails of this.
Assuming that the game is going F2P, why are they continuing to sell the preorders for the console version? Is the console version going B2P or P2P and pc going F2P? What sense would that make? If they just did the recall for the PC version and kept the console preorders out just so they could issue refunds when it releases, they'd still stand a much higher chance of coming into the negative than just cancelling the preorders now when they pulled the stock.
If the game is going B2P, why send back the PC version and keep selling the console version?
Assuming the game is NOT going F2P, why recall the time cards? Even if the PC version isn't selling that well in brick and mortar stores, the time cards will definitely sell once the console version comes out.
Unless there is some statute in Australian law that makes this lawsuit bait, it doesn't make sense either way. Best I can figure is that someone made a mistake at the retail level.

  • One thing is for sure.. ZOS has been notoriously bad about PR and relaying information to the community (although it had gotten better recently). They need to come out soon announcing one way or another or I fear people will be like rats bailing off a ship. Just the notion of a possible F2P shift without saying anything makes communities and community members panic. The longer they wait, the worse it will get.
  • FINALLY a thread about this, there haven't been a single thread the past nine months about ESO going F2P 'imminently'
  • I'm going on the assumption they recalled time cards which only seems to be in Australia that its because those time cards are for PC version only and they are re-issuing time cards as an 'all in one' to include the PS4 & Xbox1 but that just my opinion. I mean I live in the middle of no where and the walmart near me still has the game and time cards. *shrugs*
I re-subbed even after all these F2P / B2P rumors simply because I like the game.

    I know! Whats with that?
  • I think Zeni is enjoying this games time in the spotlight. Eso hasn't had this much attention since launch. Ftp rumors or no it's still free advertising.
  • Do you know what a recall is? It's when the original distributor ie ZOS asks for the product back. EB games can not recall a game.

Doesn't have to be the original. And, it's highly unlikely that ZoS is their own distributor. When I managed a franchised retail store, I found that stock recalls could be issued by manufacturer, vendor, or corporate for reasons including defects, poor sales, redistribution, or a new version of the product becoming available. I swear it was done sometimes just to make things harder to get.
